What was it like living in the USA?

Aside from the exchange rate, living costs weren’t too expensive. It didn’t cost too much to get everything I needed for my room and it was fairly easy to eat out without spending too much money. I really enjoyed the laid back campus lifestyle, living within walking distance from classes, friends and everything I needed.

What were the most rewarding aspects of your exchange experience?

The different people I got to meet new friendships were definitely highlights. All of the American students I met were friendly and really interested in Australia. I also met a lot of exchange students from different countries. I became a lot more independent as I adjusted to the American college lifestyle!

Did you experience any difficulties?

While I knew it would be cold, the first few months were far colder than I was expected.

How was the host institution?

The campus and facilities at the University of Purdue were fantastic. The grounds were really well kept, with plenty of nice areas and shady areas to relax. The residence halls all had communal areas for study, exercise, cooking and socialising all of which are really well maintained. There are multiple dining halls around campus which all provide a very wide range of great food. The university also has a huge gymnasium and the student union building has a range of cafes, a billiards room and bowling lanes. Just about everything you need is either on campus or nearby.
