Financial assistance
There is a range of financial assistance options you can explore when considering undertaking an element of your Australian qualification overseas.
The costs associated with going overseas as part of your academic program vary greatly and depend on the nature of the program, the length of your stay and the distance you travel.
For example, if you participate in a student exchange program you would be enrolled as a full time student at your home institution. You would be billed according to your status at your home institution and you would not be required to pay tuition fees to the host university. In most cases you would be required to pay for your own travel and living expenses, including accommodation. All of these things vary considerably and you should explore the costs associated with each opportunity, as shorter term experiences are usually structured quite differently from semester long exchange arrangements.
The Australian Government provides over $4.9 million per year to support undergraduate outbound student exchange activity through the Endeavour Student Exchange Program, Australian University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP) Student Exchange Program and the Endeavour Cheung Kong Student Exchange Program. More information is available from the Endeavour Awards website.
Students applying to study overseas are often eligible for scholarships through their home institution or through partner institutions, as well as assistance available through OS-HELP.
